This is What it's Like to be an Intern at Scantraxx

Share

You have always been interested in an internship within the Hardstyle scene but don’t really know what to expect from it? We sat down with our interns who will tell you more about their study, their plans in the future and their tasks at Scantraxx.

Currently we have three interns that are supporting us: Marijn and Joes are doing their Graduation internship while Linda is doing a regular internship in the field of music marketing.

Music & Marketing Internship

Marijn is 26 and is doing his Graduation internship at Scantraxx in the field of music & marketing. He studies International Event Management at the University of Applied Sciences in Breda and is already interning at Scantraxx for the second time.

Linda is 25 and from Germany. She studies Marketing Management in her 5th semester at Fontys University of Applied Sciences in Venlo.

Why exactly did you choose Scantraxx?

M: At a young age I started to listen to hardstyle and throughout the years this music genre has become a passion for me. Scantraxx has been one of the top labels and it has grown along with music. It has always been a dream for me to work for such a company, which became reality last year!

L: I have been a fan of the hardstyle genre for a couple of years now and just like many others I didn’t really know much behind the music until I figured out that I wanted to do something in the creative industry. Scantraxx was a company that immediately grabbed my attention not only despite the fact that they represented one of my favourite Hardsyle artists in the scene. But also because I could relate to their vision and found them to be very authentic whether it was on their socials or how they represented themselves as a team.

What is your relation to the Harder Styles Scene?

M: I wanted to pass my passion for this genre to an audience, so I started my DJ career as Flux Overload. Besides that I’ve organised a few events and did some community assignments in the scene.

L: Before I started listening to Hardstyle I was more of an EDM girly but that quickly changed when I started going to the first festivals. I immediately fell in love with the Hardstyle Genre and loved the vibe and the dedicated community..

Marijn: Developing myself as a professional is one of the main learning outcomes. Within 6 months I gained a lot of insights and motivation for the future.

What were your tasks during the internship?

M: I’m assisting the label manager in several tasks regarding the Scantraxx releases. But most of the time I’m busy with my graduation assignment. I’m investigating how the evolution of the sound of hardstyle is affecting the music label. With these insights I will be making an advice report to get Scantraxx to a higher level.

L: There are certain tasks that I did daily such as E-Mail Marketing but other than that my tasks were really versatile among others writing articles for the Scantraxx website, creating a social media concept for the talent label Prospexx or taking care of the distribution of Scantraxx upcoming releases. In general the team is always open for fresh and innovative ideas. You don’t have to be afraid to have your own opinion and you have a lot of freedom to come up with your own ideas!

What was the most memorable experience from your internship?

M: There are quite a few memories we created with the team. But my overall best memory was the 10 Years of Adrenalize event. Adrenalize is an artist from Scantraxx and organising this event was one of the assignments during my internship.

L: Quite memorable for me was the team trip to Ibiza and no that was not only because we had an incredible good time there with a villa, drinks and pool parties. Moreover the real team building was made when Dov (The Prophet) took us to a breathing session in the middle of nowhere. Just like a lot of others I was quite sceptical about it in the first place but wow I got to be honest it was definitely something completely new and I am thankful that we got to experience this as a team. The whole trip definitely made us grow together.

What are your plans after the internship?

M: After my graduation I want to continue my work here as a full-time employee at Scantraxx. Also, I want to improve myself as a DJ and get more bookings throughout the years.

L: After my internship I want to specialise even more within the music & event industry. Therefore I will do my minor in International Music Management. I’m excited to get more insights into the theoretical knowledge within the music field.

Linda: I learned how to reflect on myself and what I can change first, rather than looking at others when a problem occurs.

Event Management Internship

Joes is 21 and studies International Events, Music, and Entertainment Studies at Fontys University of Applied Sciences in Tilburg.

Why exactly did you choose Scantraxx?

Event management and music marketing have always interested me, but I wanted to further develop my skills in this area. The fact that Scantraxx organises events and stage hostings, in addition to their work as a music label, provided the perfect opportunity for me to integrate my passion with my professional goals.

Your relation to the Harder Styles Scene?

Since I was 10 years old, I have been a big fan of the harder styles, with an incredibly broad music taste I can find myself in almost every harder style sub-genre. However, I have a slight preference for early, millennium, and mainstream hardcore. But I also regularly enjoy listening to a terror track.

Joes: I learned how to align concepts with Scantraxx, while still creating something unique and gained a lot of knowledge in event marketing.

What were your tasks during the internship?

As an event management intern, I mainly focused on the upcoming stage hostings. In the past period, I worked on developing a new Scantraxx stage hosting concept, as well as exploring options for a new Scantraxx event in the Netherlands. I also took on more diverse tasks such as facilitating the Scantraxx BLACK writers camp.

What was the most memorable experience from your internship?

During the process of developing a stage hosting concept for Scantraxx, I was given the freedom to implement my own ideas without any limitations. Moreover, the level at which the concept could be developed was much higher than what I was used to, which also applies to the upcoming stage hosting. The scale of the production and the associated possibilities were of a calibre that I had not experienced before. A less formal but incredibly fun experience was the team trip to Ibiza with the entire team, including all the interns.

What are your plans after the internship?

Before diving into my professional career in the industry that I am passionate about, I will move to Australia, where I will work and then embark on a road trip across the country. I am excited to apply my knowledge abroad!
